Spicy Chili Recipe
Beat the winter blues with this recipe for a fantastic flavourful chili that will can be easily elevated with add-ons of your choice - for us Dossier’s 403 Blend hot sauce is a must.
We like to make this meal in a big pot in the early afternoon, and let it sit on a low simmer while we brave the winter conditions and take our kids out to look at the holiday light displays that are scattered in our neighborhood. Then when you arrive home, the house smells delightful and dinner is ready to go.
This classic chili recipe can be enjoyed on it’s own, but we like to add sliced avocado, sour cream, chopped scallions, aged cheddar - and of course, hot sauce.
FULL RECIPE (8-10 servings)
Ingredients:
1 Whole White onion finely chopped
1/2 cup Celery finely chopped
1/2 cup peeled Carrots finely chopped
3 cloves of garlic minced
2 tbsp 403 Blend Hot Sauce
796ml (28oz) can of Diced Tomatoes
540ml (19oz) can of Chili seasoned Diced Stewed Tomatoes
540ml (19oz) can of Black Beans
1 pack Lean Ground Beef
INSTRUCTIONS:
In large frying pan, over medium heat, add 2 tbsp oil and half the chopped white onion, cook for 1-2 minutes then add ground beef and cook until brown. Drain excess grease and set aside.
To a large pot, over medium heat, add 2 tbsp oil and remaining onion, celery, carrot and minced garlic. Cook until soft 10-15mins. Use an immersion blender (stick blender) to blend up both the diced tomatoes and chili seasoned diced tomatoes. Feel free to skip this step if you like a heartier consistency in your chili.
Add blended tomatoes and 403 Blend Hot Sauce to pot of cooked vegetables, rinse can of black beans and add 3/4 can to the pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, add ground beef and simmer until ready to eat. Add salt and pepper to taste.
If the consistency of the chili is too thick, consider adding 1/3 to 1/2 a cup of chicken or vegetable broth.
Top with aged cheddar, a dollop of sour cream, chopped chives or scallions, fresh ground black pepper, sliced avocado and of course, 403 Blend.
Serve with a fresh roll of French bread for an added element of awesomeness.
Enjoy!
